On the 10/03/2016, a full mini bus of very enthusiastic pupils travelled to the County Urdd Eisteddfod. The excellent performances were the result of weeks and weeks of practising.
The first competition was the Group recital for Years 7-9. The group consisted of Alex Hoey, Loti Glyn, Bronwen Clatworthy, William Dalgleish, Morganna Davies, Kai Fish, Martha Smith, Rowena Smith and Megan Wood. The text was an extract from ‘O'r Uchder hwn’ by Meirion MacIntyre Huws and the group performed in an excellent fashion. The adjudicator deemed the group to be deserving of first place.
There were 3 individuals in the Recital competition for individuals Yrs 7-9. Loti and Alex represented Gwynllyw. The text was ‘Mae safle ar y we’ by Tudur Dylan Jones which was performed in an engaging manner by both. Alex Hoey won the first prize and Loti came second. Well done.
It was then time to watch the Dialogue competition. There were 2 groups from Gwynllyw who performed extracts from Daniel Owen’s novels. The first pair onto the stage were Tirion Tibbs and William Dalgleish- both dressed in character- Tirion looked fabulous in her grey wig! Then Loti Glyn and Alex Hoey entertained the audience with their original and unique performance.
Following much deliberation, the adjudicators gave the second prize to Tirion and Will and the first prize to Loti and Alex. Congratulations!
When discussing the experience, Loti stated ‘I enjoyed the Eisteddfod very much; it was an excellent experience and helped me gain confidence for the future.’ Alex added ‘I enjoyed performing in front of an audience and showcasing my talents!’.
In the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Gwynllyw will be represented by:

The Eisteddfod this year is in Flint from 30th May to 4th of June.
