Gwynllyw yn disgleirio ar y llethrau ac yn ennill medalau.
Cafwyd llwyddiant mawr wrth sgio lawr y llethrau sych yn ddiweddar a dangosodd disgyblion Gwynllyw unwaith eto eu talentau. Individual results for Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw were as follows: In the Under 14 category, Angharad Morley took gold for the girls and Bradley Hurter won gold for the boys. In the boys Under 16 category, Ioan Higgins took gold as best registered racer and Alasdair Bowring and Joshua Jones took gold and bronze in the unregistered category. In the girls Under 16 category, Rowena Smith took gold as best registered skier and Alana Pocknell won gold and Georgina Belcher bronze in the unregistered category. In the Under 18 category, Boys’ Captain, Louis Davies-Cren won gold for the boys and Girls’ Captain, Stephanie Belcher won gold for the girls. For best boys secondary school performance overall, Ioan Higgins took gold in the Registered category and Louis Davies-Cren took gold in the unregistered category. For best girls secondary performance overall, Rowena Smith took gold in the Registered category and Angharad Morley took gold in the unregistered category. Girls Captain, Stephanie Belcher should have been given silver in the unregistered category but rather flatteringly the organisers assumed she was a registered racer and gave silver to Alana Pocknell instead! The Championship ended with a nailbiting finish to see who would post the fastest championship time. Louis Davies-Cren in the final run of the day went all out to win, loosing his footing and narrowly avoided falling (drawing “ooos” from the assembled crowd) and succeeded in just pipping his fellow Gwynllyw pupil, Rowena Smith by a fraction of a second to get the fastest run of the day. All skiers would like to thank Mike Pilcher and Ian Gurner from Torfaen Ski Club for training them and they now look forward to the Welsh Schools National Championships in Llangrannog in October where they will compete against the best skiers from all over Wales. |
