WELCOME TO THE SCIENCE FACULTY
We are a large and successful department. Our aim is to develop interest and enthusiasm for science, and to enable students to foster scientific skills, information and understanding.
During the first two and a half years at school, students study a variety of modules, which vary from the basis of the Starting Science course, giving an excellent introduction to the topics discussed later.
The KS4 courses starts after Easter in Year 9 with students taught by subject specialists in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In Key Stage 4, there is a range of different courses available for students including Entry Level, GCSE Science, GCSE Additional Science, Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Science and GCSE Chemistry, Physics and Bioleg separately.
There are a number of students studying science in the Sixth Form, at AS and A2 level as well as BTEC Level 3.
There are a number of opportunities for extra-curricular activities in the Science Department; including, engineering scheme and lower school science club. The students go on a number of educational visits and field trips, and the department has good contacts with the University of Cardiff and Techniquest.
We are also lucky to have two technicians to support the faculty in the practical work we offer to years 7 to years 13.
